JOB TITLE: Fact CheckersLOCATION: Lagos, NigeriaSTART DATE: October 2023APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 20, 2023 The International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos-Nigeria calls for applications from fact-checkers to undertake a fact-checking and information integrity project scheduled to begin in October 2023. The project aims to strengthen national capacities to prevent and mitigate threats to the integrity of information through a verification mechanism that identifies false information, prevents and mitigate its spread. The fack-checking activity and other related activity component, is supported by the UNDP. Under the project, a 3-member fact-checking team shall be tasked with the primary responsibility of monitoring, researching, generating fact checked reports and reporting cases of misinformation/ disinformation concentrating on a range of electoral and democratic governance issues, including the upcoming gubernatorial elections. Applicants who have previous work experience are encouraged to apply, however, training would be provided prior to the role commencement. RESPONSIBILITIESThe ideal candidates would be expected to work under the supervision of the project leadership. The candidates will also be expected to work with other members of the project team and report to the editorial supervisor carrying out the following roles:• Monitor the news and generate fact-checked reports to keep the fact checking website active and relevant• Research and evaluate election-related sources, cross-referencing information to ensure the accuracy of the details.• Verify the accuracy of electoral-related contents and information across a variety of written materials such as news articles, social media and other publications• Source reliable and accurate data on the elections and processes from a variety of sources• Analyse trends and patterns in election-related data• Evaluate the reliability of election-related facts and figures• Identify trends, inconsistencies and discrepancies in election-related data• Provide recommendations for improvement• Ensure fact checked content is accurate and up-to-date SKILLS• Proficiency in English language• Strong research, analytical and IT skills• Strong report writing skills• Proficiency in Microsoft Office• Ability to work with a team and independently• High level of accuracy• Ability to verify information quickly• Ability to interpret and analyse data• Strong attention to detail• Strong writing and communication skills• Ability to work to tight deadlines QUALIFICATIONS:Candidates should possess a minimum of HND/bachelor’s degree. VACANCY: MEDIA MONITOR

The International Press Centre (IPC), lead implementing partner of component 4 of the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria-Phase 2 (EUSDGN 11) requests application from suitably qualified applicant for ‘media monitor’ for its Print/online Media Monitoring activity. About the media monitoring activity: The monitoring activity would entail the survey/assessment and analysis of 10 newspapers/online news mediums on the trend of reportage of political, electoral and democratic governance issues. This call is a replacement for one (1) media monitor only, to complement the task of other media monitors already engaged for the media monitoring tasks. All applications would go through a review process and the successful applicant shall be engaged, with tasks entailing surveying, assessing and analysing the trend in media coverage of the POST 2023 elections and democratic governance issues across the 10 newspapers over a 12-month period. The monitor shall also assess the newspapers using specially-developed monitoring codes and indices on the trend of media coverage of women, PWDs, Youths, the non-usage of hate speech as well as conflict sensitive reporting, the campaign promises of presidential aspirants as well as tracking and fact-checking fake news, as may be applicable. Vacancy: Chief Correspondent and Reporter

The International Press Centre (IPC), implementing partners of component 4 of the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria-Phase 2 (EUSDGN II) requests application from suitably qualified applicants for vacant positions under its online news portal, (www.ndr.org.ng) the Nigerian Democratic Report (NDR). NDR is an independent news medium and media resource online platform managed by IPC. It was first created in 2013 and used as IPC’s online engagement platform ahead the 2015 general elections. Ahead of the 2019 elections, it produced model electoral and democratic governance reports under Component 4b: Support to the media of the EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN). Ahead of the 2023 elections, NDR shall be expanding its scope to cover broader and diverse coverage of the 2023 electoral process and related democratic governance through model reports. This shall entail incisive stories, features and analysis on cross cutting issues about Nigeria’ electoral process, including issues that enhances credible elections, democratic governance, INEC, political and electoral reforms, transparency and accountability, citizens participation, issues of inclusivity affecting Women, People living with disability (PWDs), Youths and the electoral process as well as issues on conflict transformation, hate speech, etc, encompassing the electoral processes of the 2023 and the 2027 elections. Job Requirements: A minimum of a University Degree or Higher National Diploma with proven experience in journalism and media practice. Applicants must be tech-savvy, self-driven, innovative and possess a knack for writing compelling stories.  Prove of journalism/writing work is imperative. Duties of the Chief Correspondent and the Reporter: Follow electoral and democratic related issues and report same on the NDR. This shall entail writing engaging and incisive model news/features stories on daily/weekly basis covering a range of journalism reports on activities, stories, investigations, features and analysis on/about cross cutting issues of Nigeria’s electoral process. Liaise with the NDR Editor on producing timely and accurate news/features report, including providing appropriate picture from events attended, according to NDR’s house style, or as may be necessary, based on editorial decisions. Interface with the IPC project team, as may be applicable, to ensure the coverage of all news worthy activities, such as visits, meetings, workshop, project activities, press releases, and related activities under the EU-ESDGN II project, or as may be directed. Applicants who have previously served as media monitors or as team leaders in previous media monitoring project are also encouraged to apply for the position of Head Monitor and Assistant Head Monitor respectively. NOTE however that the position of the Head Monitor and Assistant Head Monitor required proof of requisite skills or experience from past media content monitoring work. Based on the assessment of the credential/experience of the applicants, the assessment committee may re-designate a Media Monitor as Head Monitor or Assistant Head Monitor respectively.
