The representatives of the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) visited the International press Centre, (IPC) Lagos on Monday, February 5, 2018.
The meeting between the two implementing partners focused on the mutual goal of the EU Funded Programme “Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria” (EU-SDGN) which aims to contribute to the reinforcement of democracy in Nigeria through building strong, effective and legitimate democratic institutions. It will be implemented from 2017 to 2021, accompanying the 2016-2019 electoral cycle, and is anchored on the priorities of the Nigerian government and the recommendations of the European Union Election Observation Mission on the 2015 General Elections.
The ECES team comprising Dominique Weerts, Governance Expert and Cathy Latiwa, Project Officer, was received by the Director of IPC, Mr Lanre Arogundade, Programme Manager, Sanmi Falobi, and Programme Officer, Melody Akinjiyan.
The discourse centered on the Specific Objective 4: The Media, including radio and social media, provides fair, accurate and ethical coverage of the electoral process.
It is anticipated that the components will impart the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
